There are still those who believe that coffee can be harmful to health. But the drink is only contraindicated for those who have insomnia, osteoporosis, stomach irritations or hypersensitivity to caffeine. For others, studies suggest that the drink is good for the heart and helps prevent Alzheimer’s.
Brazilian market is the largest in the world, with a share of around 14% in world coffee consumption.
What’s in coffee?
Caffeine is just one of the substances present in the drink, which is also composed of mineral salts, vitamin B, amino acids and antioxidant polyphenols that help fight cell aging. To facilitate consumption, the North American start-up HVMN (formerly Nootrobox) launched Go Cubes, chewable gummies that provide a dose with the same benefits as a drink and the convenience of a snack. Available in three flavors (mocha, pure and latte), the product – which started sales on the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform – is now at Amazon website for around 55 euros/pack of 20 units. Each 2-cube serving contains 100 milligrams of caffeine, the equivalent of one cup. And the effect lasts for 4 to 6 hours.
Pectin-based gummy cubes are vegan, free from gluten and other allergens. Its composition has pleased several audiences, including athletes, but its consumption by astronauts in space is also considered. The company sold the first batch within hours in the United States. Will chewable coffee be the future of this beverage so appreciated around the world?
Update 2022: the company no longer sells the product, but for those who are still looking for their chewable coffee, it is available in Brazil, Sunflower sells it here:
